Ukrainian Voice UK

A coalition of community groups, charities, academics, and civic leaders advocating for the long-term stability of Ukrainians who came to the UK after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022

Write to your MP

If you are a resident in the UK under the Ukraine Schemes (including Ukraine Permission Extension), we encourage you to contact your Member of Parliament to share your views and lived experience regarding long-term stability in the UK.

While we remain sincerely grateful for the UK’s support and for the extensions provided, many Ukrainians will have lived in the UK for approximately 6.5 years by Autumn 2028 and still have no clear route to settlement. This ongoing uncertainty affects people in different ways. Some hope to return to Ukraine when it is genuinely safe. Others wish to remain in the UK longer, particularly where children are settled in education and families have established lives here. Many simply need clarity to plan responsibly.

We ask constituents to write to their MP to:

  • explain how temporary status impacts everyday life (employment and progression, housing stability, education planning, family wellbeing, and integration); and
  • request that the MP raise this issue with the Home Office and support consideration of a clear pathway to long-term immigration status, including a route to settlement for Ukrainians who are lawfully resident and contributing in the UK.

When writing, please include your full name and postcode (as MPs can only act on behalf of their constituents) and – if possible – briefly describe your personal circumstances and what you would like to see for the future.

We have provided a template that you can use below. You can also download this template here.

Thank you for taking the time to engage in this important issue.
Yours faithfully,

Thank you for raising your voice.

Dear [MP Name],

My name is [Your Name], and I live in [Town / Postcode] in your constituency. I am Ukrainian and came to the UK under the Ukraine Schemes. I am very grateful for the safety and support the UK has given us.

I am writing because many Ukrainians are worried about our long‑term future. The recent Government announcement on 24 February is welcome, but we still do not know what will happen after the UPE scheme ends. Many of us have now lived in the UK for almost four years, our children are settled in schools, and we have begun to build our lives here.

[Optional personal sentence (people can add one or two lines):
For my family, the uncertainty affects us because…job / housing / children’s schooling / mental health / planning for the future

Research from the University of Birmingham shows that short‑term visas make it difficult for Ukrainians to find stable work, rent long‑term housing, and plan their children’s education. Children who have spent several years in UK schools now feel at home here and need stability. At the same time, studies on the safety of return show that going back to Ukraine is still dangerous for many families and will be for a long time even after the war is over.

I would be grateful if you could support:

  • clearer pathways to settlement for Ukrainians to stay in the UK, beyond working visas, recognising that we are not economic migrants, but people seeking humanitarian protection;
  • engagement with community groups including Ukrainian Voice UK;

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and for supporting your constituents.

Yours sincerely,

[Your name]
